"I had been wanting to compile some of Fringes earliest recordings for some time - mostly for my own amusement, but also because it's good to remember. I finally went up to the attic, pushed my way past the boxes containing hundreds of out of print Fringe CDs and found the box containing ADAT's, DAT's, tapes and CDR's of jamb sessions, song ideas - every musical memory that we thought to record "back in the day."
I present to you "Songs From The Attic" literally. These songs are made up from two of Fringes earliest projects. The first three songs are the best offerings from an EP entitled "Let It Begin." These songs helped us land some gigs and also gave us a taste of the magic that is the recording studio.
The rest of the songs are from Fringes fourth gig. They were recorded in Jackson MS. My brother (Joel) hosted us and he can throw a party. His youth group showed up frothing at the mouth, ready for a live recording of a band named "Fringe." Its high energy and way up-tempo cause, well, there was a lot of crazy kids, and this was just our fourth gig.
Dan Helmintoller, a good friend and local producer, recorded this project, and Shawn Harnish - soon to be our guitarist - and I, mixed it in the early AM hours in some dark studio in Buffalo NY.
These songs are also the only recordings we have with Dominick Renaldo who was Fringes first bass player. Dom was an incredible musician and particularly fun to watch play live as his body was never in time, but his fingers did just fine. At the time, Fringe was a three peice that included my best friend and genious drummer, Eric Perry. Eric is the fella that introduced me to a click, but that was after the live recording...
The cover art came from a photo I found kicking around my computer for the last year or so. I can't remeber where it came from - sorry - but it feels right. At some point, when I find the box containing pictures, I might make a change."
